Book the Beach Front Lunch tour if you want one answer. Every top tour meets you at Matiatia wharf, so the real choice is lunch in the price or more wineries for less.
We compared all 23 Waiheke wine tours sold on GetYourGuide. Eleven shared tours have 10 or more reviews and a rating of 4.7 or higher; the six that differ most are ranked below, and the other five are named under them. The rest are private, evening or too new to rank, and they are listed separately.

Six tours, each better than the rest at one thing: three with lunch in the price, three that put the tastings first.
All six meet you at Matiatia and none includes the ferry. Within each group they are ordered by number of reviews; open the panel under a row to see what the price covers. Prices are the live “from” price per person.

Five to six hours from Matiatia wharf: three or four cellar doors, a lunch break, then back to the ferry.
Expect a timed day, not a lazy one. All six picks meet the ferry at Matiatia wharf and fill five to six hours with three or four tasting stops and a lunch break. The ferry is extra on every one, NZ$65 return, so the real day starts with a Fullers sailing from Downtown Auckland and ends when your guide drops you back at the wharf.
The day starts on the water. Fullers360 sails from the Downtown Ferry Terminal on Quay Street to Matiatia wharf, with the first boat at 6:00 and up to 50 sailings a day on the summer timetable. Your guide meets the group at the wharf, and the Boutique Experience can also collect you from island accommodation. A Scenic tour reviewer adds one practical warning: the Island Direct boat at 10:15 is too late for that tour, so take a Fullers sailing.
At each winery you taste a flight of the estate’s wines, and it adds up: one Wineries’ Tour group counted 15 wines across four vineyards, and the Boutique Experience lists 10 to 15. Lunch sets the shape of the day. On the lunch tours the table is booked for you, at Three Seven Two on Onetangi beach or at Casita Miro on the Gourmet tour. On tastings-first tours you stop and pay yourself, with a 1.5-hour break on the Wineries’ Tour.

Pace is the trade-off on every pick. Guests on two of the top tours mention about an hour for lunch and a tight schedule, and one Beach Front Lunch guest expected a small van from the photos but rode a bus. Group limits appear on only some listings: up to 10 on the Wineries’ Tour and 15 on the Gourmet tour. If a slower day matters more than a guide, the hop-on hop-off bus lets you set your own pace.
Rain does not have to end the day: a Beach Front Lunch group toured through a September downpour and still rated it five stars. The tour finishes back at Matiatia, and you choose your sailing home; on the summer timetable the last weekday boat leaves at 11:45 pm. A Scenic tour reviewer recommends staying on after the last stop, Mudbrick, for the sunset before a later ferry.

A Waiheke wine tour package almost never includes the ferry: budget NZ$65 for the return crossing on top of the tour price.
Tours start at Matiatia wharf, where the Fullers360 ferry from Auckland’s Downtown Ferry Terminal arrives. Ferries run from 6:00 am, up to 50 a day, and a ticket stays valid for a year.
All six picks meet you at Matiatia wharf; the Boutique Experience can also pick up from island accommodation. Of all 23 tours, only Wine & Dine — Batch, the Sommelier Tour, the Wine & Art Private Tour and the Magical Evening tour include the ferry. One-way ferry NZ$60, ferry + hop-on bus NZ$104.

These four are not ranked: they are private, run in the evening, or have too few reviews to compare fairly.
Private tours are priced per tour or per group, not per person, so split between friends they come closer to a shared seat. Tours marked New have no reviews yet. Two more stand apart: Zip, Sip & Explore is a private day with a zipline and two wineries from NZ$599 per tour. The Epic Waiheke Sundowner is a small-group evening with 6–8 tastings from NZ$239 per person.

We rank only shared tours with at least 10 reviews and a 4.7 rating, then show the six that differ most.
Eleven of the 23 Waiheke wine tours on GetYourGuide pass that bar. Within a group they are ordered by number of reviews, never by commission. Private tours, evening tours and tours with fewer than 10 reviews are shown separately and never ranked, and the ferry is checked on every listing because only 4 of the 23 include it.

Guests name their guide in almost every top review. Maree is the name on the Wineries’ Tour, where one group tasted 15 wines at four vineyards. Caleb comes up on two of the other top tours.
The complaints are about pace, not quality: an hour for lunch, a tight schedule, and a bus where a van was expected. One guest wished for bread or crackers between tastings, so a snack is worth packing.

“We visited 4 vineyards on the island, and tasted 15 wines. Every vineyard had something different to offer, and the settings were incredible.”
“Well paced and flawlessly organised. Great mix of stunning wineries for everyone to enjoy.”
“I will say the day feels a little rushed though. Our lunch spot was stunning.”

Viator is a separate booking site, and we don’t compare its listings. This page covers the 23 Waiheke wine tours sold on GetYourGuide, with live prices and verified reviews; each listing shows its own cancellation terms before you pay. The six picks above run from NZ$185 to NZ$325 per person, and the ferry is extra on all of them. See the six picks.
Check the listing before you book with children. The Gourmet Food & Wine Tour + Oysters states adults only, 18+, and it includes beer, gin and whisky tastings as well as wine. The other five picks do not state an age rule on their listings, and every tour is built around alcohol tastings, so ask the operator through the booking page. Compare the picks.
Most tours meet a set sailing at Matiatia wharf, so book a Fullers boat that arrives before the start time; there are up to 50 sailings a day in summer. One Essence of Waiheke guest wrote that part of their group missed the ferry and the guide added a winery stop so they still saw three. That was one guide’s choice, not a promise on the listing. How the day runs.
Two can, if you are staying on the island. The Boutique Experience lists pickup at Matiatia or from island accommodation, and an Essence of Waiheke guest was collected from and dropped back at their accommodation instead of the wharf. The other picks meet you at Matiatia. From Auckland you still take the ferry yourself, NZ$65 return. Check the Boutique Experience.
For a first visit, usually yes: a tour puts three or four cellar doors, the driving and the tastings into one price, from NZ$185 plus the NZ$65 ferry. The ferry and hop-on hop-off bus ticket costs NZ$104, but tastings and lunch are paid at each stop, and we don’t have checked prices for those. The bus suits a slow day; a tour suits a full one. Is a Waiheke wine tour worth it?
Four to six hours on the island, counted from Matiatia wharf, plus the ferry at each end. The Half-Day Scenic Wine & Lunch is the shortest at 4 hours; the Wineries’ Tour runs 6 hours but counts from the Downtown ferry terminal in Auckland, so its island time is shorter. Most of the six picks are listed at 5 hours. Compare tour lengths.
Cancellation terms are shown on each tour before you pay.
